Hazel or birch? A path in shadow? The whisper of kinship, the pulse of the night, a nocturnal feast?
New collection at open studio November 30th 2024
Over the past year, we have created a new product line, characterized by calm colors and a mysterious nature. In these cups and plates, we see the nocturnal adventures of animals hiding from curious eyes, rarely glimpsed. Their paths are unknown, their intentions hidden, and we can only guess what plans deer, stags, badgers, bears, foxes, weasels, and owls are crafting under the cover of night.
We approached the new (still unnamed) series with a more painterly touch, which is particularly noticeable on the larger trays, where we leave more empty space as background, creating larger surfaces, and playing with depth. The yellow-brown clay blends beautifully into all of this, and in our opinion, the color scheme evokes a nocturnal atmosphere even without the use of black. Over the past few months, several variations have emerged. We focused most of our attention on the color of the animals, which tended to lean much more toward reddish tones compared to the current pieces. We’ll see how it evolves; the current look of the ceramics is quite subdued, but we were quite drawn to the more pronounced red, which hinted at comic books and animated movies.
When it comes to the name, we’ve been exploring various directions. Initially, the collection was called “Tiramisu” because of its colors, but we felt it was a bit too exotic. Then we leaned towards names connected to hazel and birch trees, the night, wild gatherings, hidden trails, nocturnal conspirators, and other creatures that watch us from the dark, living their wild lives within it, unaffected by the trivialities of our everyday existence.
The series will consist of a regular offering of cups in various sizes, with trays and dessert plates placed alongside them. Then, we would like to occasionally add other pieces that would help us explore different artistic expressions—large shallow plates, lidded containers, decorative ceramics, and thick bowls for hot dishes.
This collection will be unveiled at the open studio event on November 30, 2024, and will also be available online in 2025.
